Dầu béo chiết xuất từ hạt tía tô chứa các axit béo không no acid linolenic và acid linoleic có tác dụng tốt trong việc hạ lipid máu. Kết quả thử nghiệm cho thấy, sản phẩm thử nghiệm được điều chế từ dầu béo hạt tía tô với liều lượng 40mL/kg (Acid linoleic 58,48%, acid linolenic19,27%) - liều cao nhất có thể cho chuột uống bằng kim cong đầu tù - không cho thấy độc tính cấp. Khi dùng liều lặp lại trong 28 ngày, dầu béo hạt tía tô không có biểu hiện độc tính trên thỏ.
