Abstract

Introduction: Continuing medical education (CME) is increasingly important for all practicing nurses to improve qualifications and skills.

Objective: To describe the current situation of CME for internal nurses at Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital in the period 2020-2021.

Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive design, combining qualitative and quantitative.

Results: All nurses were able to participate in CME, but not all  were able to attend the whole CME course due to long courses, lack of time, lack of certificate, difficult techniques, no routine tasks, or specialized tasks or scientific research activities. The hospital staffs explained that due to the specific characteristics of the profession, it is difficult to arrange the time to attend the CME and the nurses can be mastered difficult techniques.

Conclusion: It is necessary to arrange CME with short training time, suitable content according to majors, and to increase scientific research training activities in hospitals.
