BARRIERS AND SOME FACTORS RELATED TO BARRIERS TO MEDICINE USE OF PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES

Abstract
Objective: To assess the barriers and some factors related to barrier to medicine use of type 2 diabetic patients at Nam Can District General Hospital, Ca Mau Province. Objects and methods: Cross-sectional study on 528 outpatients with type 2 diabetes treatment at Nam Can District General Hospital, Ca Mau province from July 2019 to April 2020. Results: Barrier to Insulin use between patients using medicine and Insulin: group of patients using medicine had the average BITQ (Barrier to Insulin Treatment Questionnaire) higher and lower positive opinion than these of group of patients using insulin (6.82 ± 0.35 with 7.01 ± 0.14; p = 0.304). Barriers to insulin use in patients who continued to take oral medications and patients who agreed to use insulin: the group of patients who continued to take the oral drug had a greater barrier to insulin use and a lower positive outlook on insulin use than the group of patients who agreed insulin use (6.83 ± 0.37 with 6.81 ± 0.20; p<0.943). There was one factor involved in the insulin use barrier: Occupation. Conclusion: Patients taking oral medications had a higher BITQ mean score and a lower positive outlook on insulin use than the group insulin treament and occupational factor associated with insulin use barrier.
