Abstract

Objective: To investigate the factors related to treatment adherence of patients with type 2 diabetes at My Xuyen District’s Medical Center. Subjects and methods: Study of description and analysis of the relationship between factors and adherence to treatment of diabetes on 385 medical records of diabetes at the Center My Xuyen District’s Medical Center, from November 2019 to March 2020. Results: Male patients complied well with the rate of 75.2%, while that of female patients was only 69.0%. The compliance rate of patients >70 years old was high at 81.3%, the lowest compliance rate was in the group of patients <50 years old (44.4%). Patients with primary education had the best adherence to treatment at 75.7%, compared with 72.0% in the group with secondary education, followed by graduated patients (69,2%) and the group has a postgraduate degree (63.6%). The lowest compliance rate among patients with income more than 10 million/month of 42.9%. The highest compliance rate recorded in the group of patients without income (living dependent on family, children...) was 81.4%. The group of housewives with the highest compliance rate (81.6%), the lowest rate in the group of officails with the compliance rate was 48.1%. The compliance rate of patients with diabetes treatment over 11 years was 79.0%, and the group of patients with 4–7 years and 8-11 years of treatment with rates of 76.0% and 70.4%, respectively; group 1-3 years with 57.2% and group <1 year, >6 months (55.7%). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant relationship of treatment adherence between different age groups, different income levels, different occupations, and different duration of treatment. There was no relationship between sexes, education levels and adherence to treatment of diabetes.
