Abstract

Objective: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and factors related to using health supplements among students at Hanoi Medical University in 2023.

Subjects and Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 246 students from Hanoi Medical University, including medical doctor students and bachelor’s program students. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires regarding personal information, the use of health supplements, and students’ knowledge and attitudes about health supplements.

Results: Medical students had more positive knowledge and attitudes toward health supplements than bachelor’s students. However, the use of health supplements did not show a significant difference between the two groups (31.6% of medical doctor students and 31.7% of bachelor’s program students). Female students had more positive knowledge and attitudes compared to male students.

Conclusion: Despite having higher knowledge, medical doctor students did not show significant differences in health supplements usage compared to bachelor’s program students. Factors such as gender, habits, and personal motivation had a more significant impact on the use of health supplements than knowledge and attitudes. Comprehensive intervention strategies are needed to raise awareness and change consumption behavior regarding health supplements among students.
