Abstract

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of atrial fibrillation and describe the characteristics of atrial fibrillation burden on a 24-hour Holter ECG.

Method: This retrospective study was conducted on 362 sets of 24-hour Holter ECG data at Nguyen Trai Hospital from March to September 2024.

Results: The prevalence of atrial fibrillation was recorded at 6.1%, with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation accounting for the majority of detected cases. The average ventricular response rate was 93.6 ± 22.3 beats per minute. The number of atrial fibrillation episodes in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation cases was 7.0 (4.0-154.0). 7.7% of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation cases had a total attack duration of less than 5 minutes.

Conclusion: Effective ambulatory ECG monitoring is needed to screen and assess the atrial fibrillation burden in high-risk and general populations.
