Abstract

Objective: The study aims to investigate the causes and management of cases where certain individuals do not develop protective responses after receiving the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV), which is commonly observed in clinical settings.

Method: The study was conducted by searching data from two databases: PubMed and domestic studies on immune responses after hepatitis B vaccination.

Results: Literature review shows that the hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. However, the immune response decreases after the age of 40 and in individuals with immuno-compromised conditions. Additionally, individuals with occult HBV infection also have very poor responses to the HBV vaccine.

Conclusion: It is recommended in practice, besides the HBsAg test, to also perform the anti-HBc test before vaccination to identify these cases for better counseling
