17. COMMENT ON OUTCOMES OF ARTHROSCOPY DEBRIDEMENT FOR THE TREATMENT OF KNEE TUBERCULOSIS AT NATIONAL LUNG HOSPITAL FROM 03/2021 TO 03/2023

Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is a common disease in the world as well as in Vietnam. Tuberculosis knee arthritis is a specific knee joint infection caused by tubercle bacilli. Without proper treatment, the disease can persist and cause loss of joint function.


Objectives: 1- Describe the clinical and subclinical characteristics of patients with tuberculosis knee arthritis treated at National Lung Hospital; 2- Describe outcomes of arthroscopy debridement for the treatment of knee tuberculosis at National Lung Hospital.


Methods: A retrospective descriptive study.


Results: 41 patients with knee arthritis had arthroscopy debridement from 03/2021 to 03/2023.Result: Out of abscess 87.2%; need secondary surgery: 12.2% Knee score according to OKS 6 months Post-operation: 26.3 points; 12 months Post-operation: 38.1 points.


Conclusion: Arthroscopy debridement to treat tuberculosis knee arthritis is a good choice, patients recover early. However, it is necessary to have orthopaedic surgery to help patients recover full of functions of the knee joint in cases had severe knee joint destruction.
