THE CURRENT SITUATION OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IN CHILDREN WITH URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS AT VINMEC TIMES CITY HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To describe the current situation of antibiotic resistance in children with urinary tract infections at Vinmec Times City Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A retrospective study on 120 children diagnosed with urinary tract infections treated at Vinmec Times City Hospital. Results: Among the samples, 52% were boys and 48% were girls. The majority of children are between one month old and one-year-old (64%). Fever was the main clinical symptom (96%), with 62% of children having a high fever above 39°C. Escherichia coli was the most common causative pathogen, accounting for 73,3% of cases. The cultured bacteria showed high resistance rates to ampicillin (79,3%), cotrimoxazole (55,1%), and first-generation cephalosporins. Third-generation cephalosporins such as cefotaxime and ceftriaxone showed only moderate sensitivity (about 50%). Conversely, fosfomycin (100%), nitrofurantoin (100%), amikacin (85.7%), and carbapenems (100%) maintained high effectiveness. Conclusion: The study results indicate that antibiotic resistance among bacteria is increasing, with resistance to many antibiotics.
