17. SURVEY CAREGIVERS' OPINIONS ON THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THE APHASIA UNITED BEST PRACTICE RECOMMENDATIONS IN VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Aphasia affects the quality of life of patients and their caregivers.
Objective: To determine (1) the appropriateness of the content of the best practice recommendations (PR) for aphasia of Aphasia United from the caregivers’ perspective in Vietnam; and (2) PRs that need to be supplemented in accordance with reality in Vietnam.
Method: Quantitative combined qualitative method using nominal group technique and maximum variation sampling.
Results: Seventeen caregivers for post-stroke aphasia patients participated in one of six nominal groups. Most of the existing PRs have a high agreement rate (88.24 – 100%). Priority PRs for supplementation are compiled into five themes and ordered by relative importance. The top priority recommendation is “People with aphasia and caregivers should receive psychological support” (42.16%); next is “People with aphasia should have easy access to Speech and Language Therapy” (34.31%).
Conclusion: Existing recommendations are appropriate to the needs of people with aphasia and related people in the Vietnamese context from the caregiver’s perspective. Besides, additional recommendations contribute to improving service quality for aphasia.
