35. STUDY ON APPLIED ANATOMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INTERNAL THORACIC ARTERY IN ADULT VIETNAMESE CADAVERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Coronary artery bypass surgery using the internal thoracic artery is increasingly widely applied. Currently, in Vietnam, there is no research on the anatomical characteristics of the internal thoracic artery. We conducted “Study on applied anatomical characteristics of the internal thoracic artery in adult Vietnamese cadavers”.
Objectives:
- Research on anatomical characteristics of the internal thoracic artery in adult Vietnamese cadavers.
- Research on variations in internal thoracic artery anatomy in adult Vietnamese cadavers.
Methods: Descriptive study of a series of cases, convenient sampling. All cadavers that met the sampling criteria were included in the study.
Results: 91 cases of internal thoracic artery (91%) originate directly from the subclavian artery, 9 cases of internal thoracic artery originate together with other arteries. In 72% of cases the phrenic nerve crosses anterior to the internal thoracic artery and in 28% of cases the phrenic nerve crosses posterior to the internal thoracic artery. The length of the left internal thoracic artery is 208.69 ± 21.78 mm, the right is 201.73 ± 22.13 mm.
Conclusions: The anatomical characteristics of the internal thoracic artery are suitable for coronary artery bypass surgery. Variations in origin need to be considered to increase the success rate of surgery.
