CLINICAL, SUBCLINICAL, AND FUNGAL ORIGIN FEATURES IN PATIENTS WITH COVID-19 BLOOD FUNGAL INFECTION

Abstract

Objective: COVID-19 patients are at high risk of candidemia, identifying clinical and paraclinical characteristics that allow for the prognosis of candidemia and allow for early treatment is important in the treatment of patients. This study aims to review some characteristics and treatment outcomes of COVID-19 patients with bacteremia with fungal. Method: A Cross-sectional descriptive study, data was collected on all patients diagnosed COVID-19 who had bacteremia with fungal at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and the Hospital for Treatment of COVID-19 Patients from January 2022 to June 2023. Results: 51 patients were involved in this study  in which male/female ratio of 3/1, mean age 57.35±19.38, 49% of patients were aged 60-80 years, 23.5% of patients were co-infected with HIV. The severe and critical level of covid-19 accounted for a high rate of 68.6%. The mortality rate in the study was 43.14%. C.albicans had the highest mortality rate of 60%, followed by C.tropicalis with 45.5%. The rate of hyperthermia accounted for a high rate of 35.3%, normal blood pressure accounted for 64.7%, increased heart rate and increased breathing rate were found in 2/3 of patients. The average concentration of Crp-hs was high at 98.4 ± 92.15, the LDH concentration was high at 740 ± 1209.4, and the concentration of Il-6 increased: 1673.91 ± 211.5. Conclusion: COVID-19 patients with candidemia had a relatively high mortality rate, fever and leukocytosis were common symptoms. C.albicans is the most common cause and has the highest mortality rate.
