KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES OF NURSES REGARDING THE PREVENTION OF CATHETER-ASSOCIATED URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS AT TAM ANH GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2025

Abstract

Objectives: To describe the knowledge and attitudes of nurses regarding the prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infections at Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi in 2025 and to analyze related factors.


Method: A cross-sectional study involved 310 nurses caring for patients with urinary catheters from January to June 2025, using a questionnaire developed by the research team.


Results: The study found that 64.2% of nurses had good general knowledge about catheter-associated urinary tract infections prevention, and 75.8% had a good attitude. Several factors were associated with nurses’ knowledge, including years of experience, professional qualifications, training on catheter-associated urinary tract infections prevention, and monitoring and supervision of catheter care (p < 0.05). Factors related to attitude included training on catheter-associated urinary tract infections prevention; monitoring and supervision of catheter care (p < 0.05).


Conclusion: The proportion of nurses with adequate knowledge and positive attitudes remains low. It is necessary to enhance training on catheter-associated urinary tract infections prevention and increase the monitoring and supervision of catheter care.
