Abstract

Objective: Describing the current status of receiving and supplying Rh(D) negative blood from voluntary blood donors in the Mekong Delta region in the first 6 months of 2024 was the objective of this study.

Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. Data were collected from archived records on the management of donor recruitment, blood collection, and the preparation of blood components from individuals with the rare Rh(D) negative blood type. Blood group results were extracted from the TPH blood group management software in 2024.

Results: In the first 6 months of 2024, 100 units of Rh(D) negative blood were collected, while 156 units were supplied, primarily in Can Tho city. The findings revealed an imbalance between blood collection and supply, with an average fulfillment rate of 64.10%.

Conclusions: The study highlights a significant imbalance in the collection and supply of Rh(D) negative blood in the Mekong Delta region, with an average fulfillment rate of only 64.10%. Enhancing voluntary blood donation campaigns and improving the efficiency of blood coordination between localities are crucial to addressing this issue.
