49. THE RESULTS OF ANDERSON-HYNES SURGERY ON CHILDREN WITH URETEROPELVIC JUNCTION OBSTRUCTION IN THAI NGUYEN CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
The ureteropelvic junction is the connection between the renal pelvis and the ureter. Complete or partial obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction hinders the flow of urine from the renal pelvis to the ureter, leading to a condition known as hydronephrosis, internationally referred to as Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction (UPJO).
Objectives: Evaluation of the outcomes of ureteropelvic junction reconstruction using the Anderson-Hynes method at the Pediatric Surgery Department, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital.
Methods: A retrospective and prospective study was conducted on 33 patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction who underwent ureteropelvic junction reconstruction using the Anderson-Hynes method from January 2018 to June 2024.
Results: A total of 33 patients underwent pyeloplasty using the Anderson-Hynes technique. The average age was 5.15 years, with 27 boys (81.8%) and 6 girls (18.2%). The left kidney was affected in 22 patients, the right kidney in 6 patients, and 5 patients had hydronephrosis in both kidneys. The most common clinical symptom was urinary tract infection (57.6%). The average hospital stay after surgery was 6.61 ± 2.26 days. The outcomes were evaluated as good in 19 cases (79.2%), fair in 4 cases (16.7%), and poor in 1 case (3%). There was 1 patient who experienced restenosis and underwent a second reconstructive surgery.
Conclusion: The Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty for treating ureteropelvic junction obstruction in children is a highly effective surgical method with a high success rate.
