40. ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH THYROID CANCER
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This study aims to review the methods for assessing the quality of life in thyroid cancer patients, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each tool, and suggest appropriate methods for clinical practice application in Vietnam. Additionally, the study presents some preliminary findings from a study conducted at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City on quality of life after thyroid cancer surgery.
Methods: The study synthesizes and analyzes previous research on the quality of life of thyroid cancer patients and evaluates quality of life measurement scales such as WHOQoL-BREF, SF-36, FACT-G, and EORTC QLQ-C30. Preliminary findings at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City were collected using the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. Results: Current quality of life assessment tools have their own strengths and weaknesses, with EORTC QLQ-C30 being considered the most suitable for thyroid cancer patients due to its specificity and high sensitivity in reflecting patients' health status. The study at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City revealed that common symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, and pain significantly affected the patients' quality of life after surgery. Conclusion: Selecting and using appropriate quality of life measurement scales is essential to enhance the treatment efficacy and quality of life for thyroid cancer patients. These tools should be validated and adjusted to fit the practical conditions of each healthcare facility
