16. CLINICAL AND SUBCLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PRIMARY KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS DISEASE AT TRADITIONAL MEDICINE HOSPITAL IN THUA THIEN HUE PROVINCE

Abstract

Objective: Describe clinical and subclinical characteristics of primary knee osteoarthritis disease at Traditional Medicine Hospital in Thua Thien Hue Province.


Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 45 patients aged ≥ 40 years, diagnosed with primary knee osteoarthritis, and classified into stages I, II, III of knee osteoarthritis. Patients meeting the inclusion criteria underwent clinical examination, blood tests, knee X-rays.


Results and conclusion: Knee osteoarthritis is common in female patients (80%), over 70 years old (46.7%), manual workers (91.1%), and disease duration over 10 years (71.1%). Patients with BMI in the overweight and obese range have a higher rate of knee osteoarthritis (46.6%). The level of pain calculated on the VAS scale has 62% of patients with moderate pain and 38% of patients with little pain, the average VAS score is 6.08 ± 1.54. Assessing knee joint mobility according to the WOMAC scale has 83.5% had moderate disorders, 12.7% had severe disorders. 70.9% of patients had moderate range of motion limitation, 20.3% mild and 8.9% severe.
