Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of dermatophyte species causing infections at Ho Chi Minh city Dermatology Hospital using the MALDI-TOF MS method.


Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 166 dermatophyte strains, identified using the MALDI-TOF MS method.


Results: The MALDI-TOF MS method identified the dermatophyte species causing infections as follows: Trichophyton mentagrophytes/Trichophyton interdigitale (51.2%), Trichophyton rubrum/Trichophyton violaceum (42.2%), Microsporum gypseum (4.8%), and Microsporum canis (1.8%).


Conclusion: The MALDI-TOF MS method can be applied in the identification of dermatophyte infection agents.
