THE DIAGNOSTIC VALUE OF ULTRASOUND IN DIAGNOSING CERTAIN COMMON LESIONS OF SHOULDER
Main Article Content
Abstract
The retrospective study was performed on 200 patients with painful shoulders who underwent ultrasound according to the standard protocol of the Radiology Centre of Hanoi Medical University
Hospital. Out of these patients, 41 cases underwent arthroscopy. The results of ultrasound and arthroscopy were analyzed and compared in the assessment of the diagnostic value of ultrasound in lesions of shoulder.
Results: Ultrasound detected 31.5% with partial-thickness rotator cuff tear, 21% with full-thickness rotator cuff tear and 20.5% with tendonitis. Ultrasound showed a sensitivity (Sn) of 80%, specificity
(Sp) of 95.2%, positive predictive value (PPV) of 94.1%, negative predictive value (NPV) of 83.3% in diagnosing full-thickness rotator cuff tear. For partial-thickness rotator cuff tear, it showed a Sn
of 57.1%, Sp of 92.6%, PPV of 80%, NPV of 80.6%. In detection of tendonitis, Sn of ultrasound was 57.1%, Sp was 88.2%, PPV was 50%, NPV was 90%. Ultrasound showed a Sn of 39.3%, Sp of
92.3%, PPV of 91.7%, NPV of 43.4% in evaluating subacromial-subdeltoid bursa.
