Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the results of first-line ARV treatment and some influencing factors in HIV/AIDS-infected children at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study implemented from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022 with 61 children under 18 years of age being managed and treated with ART at an HIV outpatient clinic, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
Result: Of the total number of patients being managed and treated with ART, 95.1% responded to first-line ARVs after 12 months. Follow-up after 24 months of treatment, 13% of patients failed first-line ARV regimens, had to use the second-line ARV regimen. Factors associated with failure of first-line therapy include maternal mortality (OR = 10; 95% CI: 1.6-63.3), pre-treatment viral load > 1000 cp/ml (OR = 7.16; 95% CI: 1.5-35) and adherence (OR = 10.8; 95% CI: 2.2-53.7).
Conclude: It is necessary to strengthen management, treatment support and counseling to improve treatment adherence, helping patients respond better to ARV.
