Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To describe the pre-hospital sleep status of inpatients in the respiratory department at Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi in 2023 and analyze some related factors.
Research methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 210 inpatients at the respiratory department of Tam Anh Hospital from March 2023 to August 2023.
Results: Patients receiving inpatient treatment at the respiratory department had poor sleep quality before admission according to the scale (PSQI > 5) accounting for 62.4%. The average score of all subjects was 7.2 ± 4.0. The majority of patients experienced adverse events while sleeping at a rate of 83.8%. The proportion of patients who took more than 30 minutes to fall asleep was 36.1%. Patients’ sleep efficiency was below 85%, accounting for 58.1%. The number of patients who had to use sedatives to regulate sleep was low at 9.5%. Insomnia affected daily activities, with 44.3% of patients reporting problems in daily activities. The group aged ≤ 35 years had higher good sleep quality than the group aged ≥ 60 years (55.1% vs. 17.8%), adjusted OR = 5.36, 95% CI ranged from 2.4 to 11.8 (p < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference between age, occupation, education level, and pre-hospital sleep quality. Conclusion: 62.4% of patients receiving inpatient treatment at the respiratory department had poor sleep quality before admission. Age, occupation and education level were statistically significantly related to sleep quality (p < 0.001). Gender, physical condition, and marriage do not have much to do with the patient’s pre-hospital sleep quality.
