INVESTIGATION OF THE ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY AND CANDIDA ALBICANS KILL-KINETICS OF 0.12% CHLORHEXIDINE DIGLUCONATE MOUTHWASH IN DENTISTRY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and killing kinetics of a mouthwash containing 0.12% Chlorhexidine Digluconate (CHX-D) combined with 3% PEG4000.
Research methods: Antimicrobial activity was determined by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) against 4 strains: E.coli, S.aureus, S.mutans, and C.albicans. Concentration-dependent effects (1-16 × MIC) were assessed for all strains, while time-kill kinetics (10-60 seconds) and microbial density (10⁵-10⁶ CFU/ml) were evaluated for C.albicans.
Results: Mouthwash CHX-D 0.12% showed strong activity with MBC/MIC ≤ 2 for bacteria and ≤ 4 for C.albicans. The solution eliminated > 99.9% of C.albicans after 10 seconds at 10⁵ CFU/ml and reached 99.99% after 40 seconds; at 10⁶ CFU/ml, it still achieved 99% after 10 seconds and complete killing after 60 seconds.
Kết luận: Kết quả khẳng định nước súc miệng CHX-D 0,12% là chế phẩm kháng khuẩn phổ rộng, diệt vi sinh vật nhanh và hiệu quả.
