LEARNING CURVE OF RADIAL ARTERY ACCESS IN CORONARY ANGIOGRAPHY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To determine the number of procedures required for a novice operator to achieve proficiency in radial artery access.
Subject and methods: This cross-sectional study included 140 patients who underwent radial artery access for coronary angiography performed by an operator with no prior arterial access experience. The learning curve was analyzed using CUSUM methods for both procedural failure and access time.
Results: The overall success rate was 92.1%. First-attempt success was achieved in 82.1% of cases, and access-site complications were low (7.9%). CUSUM analysis indicated that the operator reached an acceptable failure rate after 101 cases and achieved stable procedural time after 103 cases, marking the point of technical proficiency.
Conclusion: A novice operator requires approximately 103 procedures to achieve full proficiency in radial artery access.
