6. CLINICAL FEATURES OF SLEEP DISORDERS IN PATIENTS WITH SCHIZOAFFECTIVE DISORERS

Abstract
Objective: To describe some clinical features of sleep disturbances in inpatients diagnosed with schizoaffective disorders at the Institute of Mental Health, Bach Mai Hospital.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 166 inpatients diagnosed with schizoaffective disorders according to ICD-10 criteria at the Institute of Mental Health, Bach Mai Hospital, from July 2024 to May 2025.
Results: 127/166 patients had sleep disorders, of which 95.3% had insomnia, 12.6% had restless legs syndrome, 9.4% had nightmares, 3.9% had sleep-wake rhythm disorders, 2.4% had hypersomnia, and 0.8% had sleep terrors. Regarding sleep stages, early sleep disturbances had the highest rate of 81.1%. The average total sleep time per night was 5.1 ± 1.9, the average time in bed was 7.5 ± 1.5, with no difference between men and women. Very poor sleep efficiency accounts for the highest rate of 33,7%. The average PSQI score was 10.95 ± 5.1.
Conclusion: Sleep disorders are common in schizoaffective disorders and they are a matter of concern in the care and treatment for these patients.
