Background: Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, Assessing the knowledge and attitudes of students at puberty about cervical cancer is very necessary to have a basis for developing appropriate cervical cancer prevention and propaganda content.
Research objective: Determine the proportion of students at the age of puberty with correct knowledge and attitudes about cervical cancer at Nguyen Viet Xuan Secondary School and the prevention plans for female students in 2022.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on all 494 7th grade students at Nguyen Viet Xuan School using a set of self-completed multiple choice questions.
Results: Students have the correct knowledge (45.2%) and correct attitude (69.9%) about cervical cancer is still low and there is no big difference between male and female students (corresponding ratio between female and male is 44 .9% and 45.5%; 75.1% and 63.8%). Only 13.3% of female students have been vaccinated against cervical cancer; 37.8% will get vaccinated in the near future. There is a relationship between cervical cancer prevention attitudes and gender; between correct knowledge about cervical cancer and correct attitude about cervical cancer.
Conclusion - Recommendation: It is necessary to strengthen reproductive health propaganda, prevention and control of cervical cancer in adolescents and young adults about the causes, symptoms and prevention of the disease, emphasizing HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening.
