Objective: Describe clinical and paraclinical signs and results of care and phototherapy in jaundice children with indirect hyperbilirubinemia.
Methods: The study prospectively describes 180 cases of jaundice patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria at the Neonatal Care and Treatment Center from March to December 2021.
Results: Out of a total of 180 full-term jaundice infants prescribed phototherapy participating in the study, the hospital discharge rate was 99.4%, there was 1 (0.6%) child transferred to the hospital due to severe hyperbilirubinemia, soon after birth, no child had serious complications or death. Regarding care and monitoring of phototherapy, midwives at the center are performed on a regular basis. 100% of children received phototherapy for jaundice ≤6 hours/time/day, 100% of children are bathed to clean their skin and eyes once a day in the morning. There were 6 (3.3%) children who needed feeding support with a gastric tube, and most of the remaining children were able to breastfeed on their own. The average bilirubin concentration before phototherapy was 275.39 ± 75.158 and gradually decreased until the end of phototherapy to 189.664 ± 45.437 mmol/l. The average phototherapy time is 56.2 ± 26.42 hours, the treatment effect is clearly shown on day 2 and the day the child is ready to be discharged from the hospital.
Conclusion: Jaundice treated with phototherapy at the Neonatal Care and Treatment Center of the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital resulted in a high success rate, few side effects, and no children had complications.
