Abstract

Objective: Describing the current situation of using antibiotics to treat ventilator associated pneumonia.

Subjects and methods: retrospective descriptive study on 79 medical records of ventilator associated pneumonia patients treated at Dong Nai General Hospital from January 2020 to December 2020.

Results: The most widely used antibiotic belongs to the β-lactam group, followed by the Quinolone group. In the β-lactam group, the Cephalosporin subgroup accounted for the highest proportion (64.56%). Most patients were assigned to use the combination regimen of 2 antibiotics (46.8%) and the regimen alone (48.1%). Patients were mainly prescribed antibiotics by injection or intravenous infusion during treatment.

Conclusion: Antibiotics of the β-lactam group were the most widely used, in which the Cephalosporin subgroup accounted for the highest percentage. The majority of patients were assigned to use a combination of 2 antibiotics and a single regimen.
