Objectives: To describe the need for smile enhancement and to identify several factors associated with this need among adolescents aged 16-18 years in Tu Son city, Bac Ninh province.
Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 400 adolescents aged 16 to 18 years using a standardized interview questionnaire. Associated factors were determined using the Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis.
Results: The prevalence of adolescents with a need for smile enhancement was 75.8%. This need was significantly influenced by social media, the habit of covering the mouth when smiling, self-consciousness, and a history of being teased about oral appearance. No statistically significant associations were found with sex, age, and family economic status.
Conclusion: The need for smile enhancement among adolescents in Tu Son, Bac Ninh is high. This demand is strongly driven by personal psychological pressure and social media influence rather than demographic and baseline socioeconomic factors.
