Abstract

Objectives: To investigate the antibiotic resistance status of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated at Ha Dong General Hospital in 2024.

Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using medical records of patients referred for culture at Ha Dong General Hospital from January 2024 to December 2024. P. aeruginosa strains were initially isolated from specimens at the Microbiology Department, and antibiotic resistance rates were determined using the VITEK 2 system and interpreted according to CLSI 2024 standards.

Results: The positive rate for P. aeruginosa was 3.6% (159 strains/4410 samples). Of these, the majority of P. aeruginosa strains were isolated from respiratory samples (64.8%) and mainly from patients aged 60 years or older (67.3%). They showed resistance to piperacillin (51.8%), piperacillin/tazobactam (51.9%), ticarcillin/clavulanate (54.2%), ceftazidime (37.6%), cefepime (57.1%), imipenem (62.3%), meropenem (62.3%), ciprofloxacin (58.4%), levofloxacin (53.0%), and tobramycin (57.1%).

Conclusions: The isolation rate of P. aeruginosa from cultured specimens at Ha Dong General Hospital is relatively low, but the rate of resistance to commonly used antibiotics is high.
