Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the compliance rate with the surgical safety checklist and analyze several influencing factors in cataract surgery at Ho Chi Minh city Eye Hospital in 2025.
Subjects and methods: A sequential mixed-methods design was used, including a quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study of 173 surgical teams and a qualitative study through in-depth interviews and group discussions.
Results: The compliance rate for the pre-anesthesia/anesthesia phase reached 96.5%, compliance in the preoperative phase was lower among surgeons and circulating instrument nurses, while compliance before the patient left the operating room reached 100%. Influencing factors included experience, awareness, attitude, practice habits, workload pressure, and hospital leadership.
Conclusions: Continued monitoring, training, and attention to steps that are easily missed are needed to improve patient safety.
