Objective: To survey the current application of traditional medicine non-pharmacological therapies and to analyze the characteristics of acupoint selection and combination in the treatment of cervical scapulohumeral syndrome.
Subjects and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using medical records of patients diagnosed with cervical scapulohumeral syndrome who received at least one traditional medicine non-pharmacological therapies at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City branch 3 and Ho Chi Minh city’s Traditional Medicine Hospital. Data were analyzed using R software, including descriptive statistics, network analysis, and cluster analysis.
Results: There are 11 non-pharmacological traditional medicine methods commonly prescribed for the treatment of cervico-brachial syndrome, among which massage and acupressure (56.3%) and acu-injection (49.4%) are the two most frequently used. Network and cluster analyses revealed distinct patterns of acupoint combinations among different treatment modalities. Electroacupuncture demonstrated a denser network structure and more specific acupoint combination subgroups than manual acupuncture, whereas acupoint injection mainly involved combinations of local acupoints.
Conclusion: Traditional medicine non-pharmacological therapies are widely applied in the treatment of cervical scapulohumeral syndrome. Acupoint selection and combination patterns differ among treatment modalities, reflecting both standardized principles and flexibility in clinical practice.
