Abstract

Objectives: To describe the clinical, hormonal characteristics and phenotypic distribution of women with polycystic ovary syndrome of reproductive age at Andrology and Fertility Hospital of Hanoi.
Subject and methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 263 patients diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome according to the Rotterdam 2003 criteria.
Results: The mean age of participants was 30.0 ± 3.6 years. The mean BMI was 22.5 ± 1.8 kg/m², with 39.2% classified as overweight or obese. Phenotype D was the most prevalent (55.1%), followed by phenotype A (39.6%). BMI, AMH, LH, LH/FSH ratio, testosterone levels, and AFC differed significantly among polycystic ovary syndrome phenotypes (p < 0.001). AMH levels showed a moderate positive correlation with antral follicle count (r = 0.560; p < 0.001). BMI was significantly higher in women with hyperandrogenism compared with those without hyperandrogenism (p < 0.001).
Conclusions: Most patients with polycystic ovary syndrome were aged 25-34 years, with phenotype D being predominant. BMI was associated with hyperandrogenism. AMH levels showed a positive correlation with antral follicle count, indicating the value of AMH in assessing ovarian reserve and supporting the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome.
