Abstract

Crohn’s disease is a chronic, nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. The disease is relatively uncommon in Vietnam and is even rarer when presenting as acute small bowel obstruction requiring emergency surgical intervention. We report the case of a 28-year-old Russian male who was admitted emergently to Vinmec Nha Trang General Hospital with inflammatory small bowel stricture and a perforated Meckel’s diverticulum. The patient underwent segmental small bowel resection with primary anastomosis. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease, demonstrating transmural inflammation, non-caseating granulomas, and other characteristic microscopic features. Through this case, we review the clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and management of Crohn’s disease complicated by inflammatory small bowel stricture, while emphasizing the pivotal role of histopathology in establishing the definitive diagnosis and guiding postoperative medical therapy.
