Objective:To analyse the distribution of acute diabetic complications and examine associated factors in diabetic patients with acute complications treated at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital in 2025-2026. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 112 diabetic patients with acute complications who met the inclusion, exclusion criteria, treatment at the Nephrology - Endocrinology Department; the Intensive Care and Toxicology Department; and the Emergency Resuscitation Department of Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital from December 2025 to May 2026. Results: There were 55 patients with hypoglycemia, 40 patients with HHS, 17 patients with DKA, and 0 patients with lactic acidosis. The most common causes of hypoglycemia were dietary factors: including poor oral intake (58.2%) and skipped meals (21.8%). Insulin therapy and infection were significantly associated with an increased risk of severe hypoglycemia (ORs of 9.0 and 8.0, respectively). Infection was the most common precipitating factor in the HHS group (70%), whereas undiagnosed diebetes was the most common in the DKA group (52.9%). HHS patients with infection faced a 7.3-fold higher risk of severe altered consciousness compared to those without infection (p<0.05). Conclusion: Individualized insulin therapy is necessary to limit the risk of severe hypoglycemia; early detection and management of infections are crucial for diabetic patients with acute complications.
