Objective
This study aimed to describe the knowledge and practice of the 5S methodology and to identify factors associated with 5S implementation among healthcare workers at Vinh Bao Medical Center, Hai Phong, Vietnam, in 2026.
Methods
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 203 healthcare workers employed at Vinh Bao Medical Center from January to May 2026.
Results
Overall, 87.2% of healthcare workers demonstrated adequate knowledge of 5S, with a mean knowledge score of 8.6 ± 1.7. In addition, 85.2% reported adequate overall 5S practice, with a mean practice score of 4.3 ± 0.2. The “Sort” component showed the lowest proportion of adequate practice (75.9%) and the lowest mean score (4.2 ± 0.4). Male healthcare workers were 2.77 times more likely to have inadequate 5S knowledge than female workers (95% CI: 1.20–6.39; p = 0.02) and 2.93 times more likely to demonstrate inadequate 5S practice (95% CI: 1.33–6.48; p = 0.009). Healthcare workers aged under 40 years were 3.40 times more likely to have inadequate 5S practice compared with those aged 40 years and older (95% CI: 1.24–9.30; p = 0.014).
Conclusions
Continuous efforts are needed to maintain and strengthen training, communication, and supervision activities related to 5S implementation. Particular attention should be paid to the “Sort” component and to male healthcare workers under 40 years of age at Vinh Bao Medical Center.
