Objective: To evaluate the early outcomes of Thulium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (ThuLEP) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Subjects and Methods: A prospective descriptive case-series study was conducted on 34 patients with BPH who underwent ThuLEP at the Department of Urology, Military Hospital 103, from August 2025 to April 2026, using convenience sampling. Outcomes were assessed by changes in IPSS, QoL, Qmax, and perioperative complications; 29 of 34 patients had complete 1-month follow-up data.
Results: The mean age was 74.2 ± 7.8 years and the mean prostate volume was 72.5 ± 28.1 mL. Mean operative, enucleation, and morcellation times were 115.0 ± 27.5, 90.6 ± 25.8, and 14.4 ± 3.6 minutes, respectively. Mean decreases in hemoglobin and serum sodium were 16.5 ± 14.9 g/L and 1.9 ± 3.9 mmol/L; mean catheterization time was 2.4 ± 0.9 days. Among 29 patients assessed at 1 month, IPSS and QoL decreased and Qmax increased compared with preoperative values (all p < 0.001). Complications included intraoperative bleeding requiring blood transfusion in 5.9%, postoperative clot retention in 2.9%, urinary tract infection in 2.9%, and transient urinary incontinence in 2.9%.
Conclusion: In this case series, improvements in IPSS, QoL, and Qmax were observed 1 month after ThuLEP. Early perioperative complications were recorded, and larger studies with longer follow-up are needed to further evaluate outcomes and safety.
