Abstract

Objective: To investigate the risk of falls in older adults with knee osteoarthritis (OA) and identify factors associated with a higher fall risk. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 171 older adults with symptomatic knee OA, who received medical examination and treatment at the Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopaedics and the Hospital for Rehabilitation and Occupational Diseases between March 2026 and June 2026. Result: Following fall risk stratification, 36.3% of the patients were classified into the low-risk group, 39.2% into the moderate-risk group, and 24.5% into the high-risk group. Female sex, advanced age, severe knee pain, bilateral knee pain, and the use of mobility aids were independently associated with a higher risk of falls in older adults with knee OA. Conclusion: Older adults with knee OA are at a high risk of falling (63.7% were categorized in the moderate-to-high risk group).
