Objectives: To assess the current status of surgical hand hygiene compliance and some related factors among healthcare workers in the Department of of Surgery and Anesthesia Resuscitation, An Sinh Hospital.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 360 surgical hand hygiene monitoring sessions via a surveillance camera system. Data was collected using checklists according to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines and analyzed using Stata 17.0 software.
Results: The rate of adherence to the correct procedure reached 66.11%; the rate of adherence to each step ranged from 80-84.44%. Nurses showed higher compliance than doctors. The group of staff with less than 5 years of experience and a university degree had a higher compliance rate than the other groups. No association was found between compliance and gender or timing of supervision.
Conclusions: The compliance rate for surgical hand hygiene is fairly good but still not high. Training and supervision need to be strengthened to improve compliance and prevent surgical site infections.
