ANXIETY CHARACTERISTICS AMONG HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS TREATED AT LAO CAI GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To describe the characteristics of anxiety disorders among patients with hypertension treated at Lao Cai General Hospital during 2025–2026. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 235 patients with hypertension who received treatment at Lao Cai General Hospital from July 2025 to June 2026, using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). Results: The prevalence of anxiety disorders among patients with hypertension was 31.5%. Among anxiety symptom domains, the most common manifestations were anxious mood (100%), tension (95.9%), sleep disturbances (91.9%), and autonomic symptoms (90.5%). Based on the HAM-A severity classification, moderate anxiety accounted for the highest proportion (15.7%). The mean HAM-A score of the entire study population was 11.7 ± 8.1 points, while the mean score among patients with anxiety disorders was 21.5 ± 4.6 points. Conclusion: Anxiety disorders were common among patients with hypertension treated at Lao Cai General Hospital. The most prominent manifestations included anxious mood, tension, sleep disturbances, and autonomic symptoms.
