Objective: Describe the knowledge of chronic kidney disease prevention and analysis of some related factors in 3rd and 5th year medical students of Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the academic year 2025-2026.
Methods: The cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 439 3rd and 5th year Medical students between October 2025 and March 2026. The survey questionnaire consists of 24 questions, based on a literature review, professional guidelines on chronic kidney disease and reference to published research related to knowledge on the prevention of chronic kidney disease. The content of the questionnaire includes knowledge about kidney function, risk factors, tests to assess kidney function and signs of chronic kidney disease. Each correct answer is counted as 1 point, wrong or unknown answers are counted as 0 points; The total score ranges from 0 to 24 points.
Results: According to the classification criteria of the study, 91.3% of students achieved a level of knowledge about the prevention of chronic kidney disease. The average knowledge score of the research subject was 17.45 ± 4.04 out of a total of 24 points. Females have higher levels of good knowledge than males (OR = 2.56; p = 0.007). Year 5 students have better knowledge than year 3 students (OR = 7,257; p < 0.001). Students with good academic ability or higher have better knowledge than the lower group (OR = 4.22; p < 0.001).
Conclusion: Medical students have a relatively good knowledge of the prevention of chronic kidney disease. Factors related to the level of knowledge include gender, academic ability, and year of study.
