Objectives: To describe the knowledge, treatment adherence practices, and the current status of HIV/AIDS patient management in Hong Ngu Ward, Dong Thap Province, in 2026.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study combining retrospective record review and direct interviews was conducted among 382 HIV-infected patients using a structured questionnaire.
Results: The mean age of participants was 35.87 ± 11.08 years old, with males counting for the majority (64.66%). The proportion of patients with correct knowledge of ARV treatment was 81.41%. However, treatment adherence remained low at 51.31%. Participants with adequate knowledge were 2.62 times more likely to adhere to treatment compared to those with inadequate knowledge (p < 0.001). The management of HIV/AIDS patients was comprehensively implemented and complied with standard procedures across all stages.
Conclusion: The proportion of patients with adequate knowledge regarding ARV treatment was relatively high; however, treatment adherence practices remained low, and a significant association between adequate knowledge and proper adherence practices was reported. The management system at the primary healthcare level was implemented comprehensively and in accordance with established procedures and regulations. Nevertheless, the support treatment adherence should be further strengthened in order to improve the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS treatment at the local.
