Unsafe premarital sex amongst adolescents in Ha Noi, Vietnam in 2019
School-based violence amongst adolescents is a worldwide public health problem. In Soc Son district, school-based violence amongst high school students tends to increase nowadays. Therefore, this study aims to explore the current situation of school-based violence amongst high school students in Soc Son district, Hanoi.
Methods: This cross-sectional study employed the data from three high schools in Soc Son district from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey in Hanoi (YRBSS). The data was collected using online data tool (Kobo Toolbox) and analyzed using SPSS 24.0. The tool in this survey was adapted from the YRBSS in US
Results: About 757 high school students 3.4% and this rate increased gradually with age. Among these, a third reported to have their first sex experience at 16 years old or younger. Further, about 20% of VTNs who had sex reported that they had many sex partners in the past 3 months.
Conclusions: Our results highlighted the current increase trend of premarital sex amongst adolescents in Hanoi. Further, adolescents who had had sex tended to report risky unsafe sex behaviours such as having many sexual partners and drunk before having sex. We suggest the importance of sex education for adolescents in schools and promoting the interventions to prevent risky sex behaviours.
