Objective: To evaluate changes in knowledge of motor rehabilitation among primary caregivers of stroke patients at Hoa Binh Traditional Medicine Hospital in 2025.
Methods: A pre–post intervention study was conducted on 64 primary caregivers of stroke patients with hemiplegia receiving inpatient treatment from May to October 2025. Knowledge of rehabilitation was assessed using a tool developed based on the Ministry of Health’s guidelines on diagnosis and rehabilitation treatment for stroke patients.
Results: After the intervention, caregivers’ knowledge improved significantly. The proportion of correct responses regarding the appropriate timing to start rehabilitation increased from 35.9% to 84.4%; correct frequency of exercises from 17.2% to 79.7%; and consistently monitoring patients during exercises from 26.6% to 71.9%. Knowledge of rehabilitation positioning also improved: correctly identifying ≥2 positions increased from 62.5% to 75.0%; identifying the best position from 10.9% to 48.4%; and correctly identifying ≥3 purposes of positioning from 3.1% to 60.9%. The mean knowledge score increased from 5.8 ± 2.5 to 10.6 ± 1.8 (p < 0.0001).
Conclusion: The intervention significantly improved caregivers’ knowledge of motor rehabilitation for stroke patients. Regular training and enhanced communication are recommended to further improve caregivers’ knowledge and practical skills, thereby supporting better rehabilitation outcomes.
