Abstract
Objective: Description of the prevalence of deciduous tooth caries in 7-11 year old children at Hoa Hau Primary School, Ly Nhan District, Ha Nam Province in 2024   Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 725 students aged 7–11 years attending Hoa Hau Primary School, Ly Nhan District, Ha Nam Province. Data were collected through clinical oral examinations and recorded using standardized questionnaires. Dental caries status was assessed based on prevalence and the Caries-Missing-Filling index. Data were entered and analyzed using statistical software with descriptive indices. Results: The prevalence of deciduous tooth caries was 84.9%, with 83.8% in males and 86.1% in females. The prevalence of deciduous tooth caries was 86.1% in the 7-8 age group and 83.8% in the 9-11 age group, with no statistically significant difference. Decay was most common in lower molars (21.5%). The Decay-Missing-Filling index for deciduous teeth was 2.71 ± 3.22 in the 7-8 age group and 0.21 ± 0.56 in the 9-11 age group. The rate of filled teeth remained low among deciduous teeth. Conclusion: The study showed that the prevalence of deciduous tooth decay among 7-11 year old students at Hoa Hau Primary School, Ly Nhan District, Ha Nam Province was high, at 84.9%. This result underscores the need to implement comprehensive, continuous, and age-appropriate oral health care programs for each stage of children's development.
