Objectives: 1) To survey the Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) index in retired officials undergoing health check-ups at Hai Duong University of Medical Technology Hospital. 2) Analysis of the relationship between Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) levels and several laboratory test results.
Subjects and methods: 4311 retired officials undergoing health check-ups at Hai Duong University of Medical Technology Hospital. Cross-sectional descriptive study.
Results: The average TyG index was 4.81, the lowest value was 4.07 and the highest was 6.22. The TyG index gradually decreased from 4.84 to 4.67 in men and gradually increased from 4.74 to 4.91 in women. TyG showed a strong positive correlation with Triglyceride (r = 0.831; p<0.001) and Glucose (r = 0.434; p<0.001). TyG showed a statistically significant positive correlation with: uric acid (r = 0.227), cholesterol (r = 0.218), GGT (r = 0.187), WBC (r = 0.178), ALT (r = 0.146), microalbuminuria (r = 0.139), LDL-C (r = 0.138), creatinine (r = 0.105), and AST (r = 0.04) (p<0.05). TyG showed a negative correlation with sodium (r = -0.105; p<0.001) and no correlation with potassium (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The average TyG score of the study sample was 4.81. The TyG score showed a strong positive correlation with triglycerides and glucose. It also showed a positive correlation with uric acid, cholesterol, GGT, WBC, ALT, microalbuminuria, LDL-C, creatinine, and AST. The TyG score showed a negative correlation with sodium and no correlation with potassium. The TyG index is a simple, low-cost tool that correlates with various metabolic indicators, suggesting its potential in screening for insulin resistance.
