LIPOPROTEIN(A) LEVELS AND THEIR ASSOCIATIONS WITH CARDIOVASCULAR RISK FACTORS IN PATIENTS AT VINMEC TIMES CITY INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is an independent genetic risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). However, data on the distribution of Lp(a) concentrations and their association with cardiovascular risk factors in the Vietnamese population remain limited. Objectives: 1) To describe the distribution of Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] concentrations among patients at Vinmec Times City International Hospital. 2) To investigate the associations between Lp(a) concentrations and the clinical and laboratory characteristics of these patients.

 

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 254 patients.

 

Results: The median Lp(a) concentration was 26.15 nmol/L (range: 7–578 nmol/L), with 22.8% of patients having Lp(a) levels ≥125 nmol/L. Lp(a) was not significantly associated with traditional cardiovascular risk factors and showed no significant correlations with most lipid parameters, except for a weak positive correlation with ApoB (r = 0.222, p = 0.049).

 

Conclusion: Lp(a) exhibits substantial interindividual variability and is largely independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors and routine lipid parameters.
