PREVALENCE OF METABOLIC SYNDROME AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES AT BAC KAN GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2025.

Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its associated factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to compare selected biochemical parameters between patients with and without metabolic syndrome.

Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on 202 outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Bac Kan General Hospital from January 2025 to July 2025. Eligible patients were enrolled according to the inclusion criteria. Biochemical analyses were performed using the Beckman Coulter AU680 analyzer.

Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was 67.8%. Factors significantly associated with metabolic syndrome included female sex, age ≥ 60 years, and body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m²(p < 0.05). Patients with metabolic syndrome had significantly higher mean triglyceride levels and lower HDL-C concentrations compared with those without metabolic syndrome(p < 0.05).

Conclusions: The majority of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had concomitant metabolic syndrome, particularly female patients. Metabolic syndrome was associated with dyslipidemia and overweight status, highlighting the importance of comprehensive management of metabolic syndrome components in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
