ARTHROSCOPIC TREATMENT OUTCOMES OF ROTATOR CUFF TEARS ASSESSED WITH THE UCLA SHOULDER SCORE AT 19-8 HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate functional outcomes after arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tears using the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Shoulder Score.

Methods: This prospective descriptive study included 28 patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tears who underwent arthroscopic surgery at the Department of Orthopedics, 19-8 Hospital. UCLA scores were recorded preoperatively and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively.

Results: The mean age was 66.39 ± 9.40 years; women and men each accounted for 50.0%. Degenerative tears accounted for 67.9%. The supraspinatus was the most frequently involved tendon (78.6%), and tears measuring 1–3 cm accounted for 60.7%. The mean UCLA score increased from 12.82 ± 2.30 preoperatively to 30.57 ± 3.10 at 6 months. At 6 months, 27/28 patients (96.4%) had good or excellent outcomes and 1/28 (3.6%) had a fair outcome. One irreparable massive tear was treated with superior capsular reconstruction and included in the overall functional analysis.

Conclusion: In this cohort of 28 patients, UCLA scores improved substantially after surgery, and 96.4% had good or excellent outcomes at 6 months.
