CLINICAL OUTCOMES OF TIBIAL SHAFT FRACTURES USING CLOSED INTRAMEDULLARY NAILING UNDER FLUOROSCOPIC GUIDANCE AT E HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: Closed intramedullary nailing under fluoroscopic guidance is considered an effective treatment for patients with tibial shaft fractures. This study aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes of this technique.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 38 patients with tibial shaft fractures who underwent closed intramedullary nailing under fluoroscopic guidance at E Hospital from April 2021 to January 2023.

Results: The mean age was 39.95 ± 15.46 years. The predominant cause of injury was traffic accidents (81.58%). According to the AO classification, simple fractures accounted for 58% of cases. Surgical outcomes evaluated by the Larson–Bostman score at 3 months were rated as excellent in 81.6% of patients. Functional recovery assessed by the Ter-Schiphort score at 6 months showed excellent results in 81.6% of cases.

Conclusion: locked intramedullary nailing under fluoroscopic guidance is an effective method for treating tibial shaft fractures, providing favorable clinical outcomes and improving patients’ quality of life.
