Background: Hypertension is a common chronic disease that requires continuous management at the primary healthcare level in order to control blood pressure and reduce complications.
Objective: To describe the current status of management, treatment adherence, and some related factors among patients with hypertension at Vinh Phuoc Commune Health Station, Ca Mau Province, in 2026.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 138 patients with hypertension who had management records at Vinh Phuoc Commune Health Station. Treatment adherence was assessed using the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale; data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0.
Results: The patients were mainly female (56.5%), aged ≥60 years (58.0%), married or living with a spouse (77.5%), and covered by health insurance (92.8%). A total of 52.2% of patients had at least one comorbidity. The rate of treatment adherence was 53.6%; adequate knowledge accounted for 76.8%; and good practice accounted for 40.6%. Monthly income of VND 10 to <15 million and ≥15 million increased the likelihood of treatment adherence compared with the group earning <10 million VND per month, with ORs of 3.04 and 4.36, respectively (p<0.01). Patients who were regularly monitored and treated at the Commune Health Station had a higher likelihood of adherence than those treated elsewhere (OR=3.80; p<0.001). Good practice was associated with treatment adherence (OR=3.53; p<0.001).
Conclusion: Treatment adherence among patients with hypertension remains suboptimal and is associated with income, regular place of monitoring/treatment, and preventive practice
